The universe looks like an angry toddler tossed a handful of sparkly glitter all over the place, which means it can be a pain in the ass to navigate the night sky. Don’t be intimated by the sparkly mess above your head. M42 (Orion Nebula) is one of the most popular space clouds. Period. Everyone knows about M42, right? Sure. Yup. Dinosaur Killers!

Earth was once ruled by very BIG things things equipped with very sharp teeth. And then things changed about 65 million years ago.   A six mile wide rocky space invader hurled through the cosmic inky depths, while a sparkling blue planet spun in the distance—Earth. Doomsday loomed above a roaring triceratops as a terrible lizard wrapped its toothy maw around a scaled neck. Delicious. [Click Here To Read Article...]

Night of the Winking Demon

08/11/2014 // 6 Comments

I felt an ominous presence. I knew something was wrong. My gut whispered to me: look up. Yup—another Supermoon. **Puts on tin foil hat** You know what this means, right? The world is coming to an end—no—the universe is about to explode. I mean, how can such an astronomical phenomenon occur three times in a row?!?!?! Don’t tell me gravity is doing all this by itself. I know better. I’ve done some thinking: If we are going to glorify the day every time the moon is full during perigee, why not glorify the moon when it’s at apogee? Sure! Why not? Being at the furthest [Click Here To Read Article...]

Everybody Loves Vega

07/07/2014 // 0 Comments

There’s more to summer than sweaty buttcracks and fear inducing ice cream trucks! This sunny season also graffitied the sky with a different stellar wallpaper, which I have never been a fan of. Orion, Taurus, Gemini—they’re finished clogging the night-time canvas (at least until next winter). I’ve mentioned that I was going on a globular cluster hunt this summer, however, I’d like to take the opportunity and introduce you all to my pal Vega. No—I’m not talking about that masked acrobatic from Street Fighter. …No—I’m not talking about Vincent [Click Here To Read Article...]
